KARACHI: A 20-year-old seminary student was shot dead in the early hours of Friday in Shah Faisal Colony, police and witnesses said.

The incident occurred in Shah Faisal Colony No.2 where two groups belonging to different schools of thought clashed over the hoisting of a flag in celebration of the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal.

“The situation was brought under control when the area police intervened in the matter and dispersed the crowd. However, one of the groups members regrouped at the Shah Faisal 2 roundabout,” an area police official said.

He said that the group intercepted a pickup truck carrying students of another seminary and beat them up.

During the fight, multiple shots were fired that killed 20-year-old Mohammad Safeer and left four others slightly wounded, the official added.
