Police averts marriage of six-year old girl

DEHARKI: Police foiled an attempt to wed a six-years-old girl to a 30 year old man near Narli village, Deharki, arresting the bride, bride groom and guests of wedding ceremony.
Child marriages are common in remote regions of Pakistan where minor girls are also often married to aged men.
Six-years-old Jannat was wedded with 30 year old Dhani Baksh.
Local police acted on a complaint and raided the ceremony, rescuing the girl as well as arresting ceremony attendees.
The brother of girl Fareed Shar told newsmen that his father had already given the hand of Jannat in marriage to Dhani Baksh five years before.
Police launched the raid for the arrest of Nikah Khuwan to proceed further investigation. – PPI
