Health unit, school blown up in Mohmand

GHALANAI: Militants blew up a middle school and a basic health unit in Chamarkand area of Safi tehsil in Mohmand tribal region overnight.

Sources said the explosives planted by the militants badly damaged the Government Middle School for Boys in Malik Bashir Kallay of Chamarkand.

Militants also blew up a basic health unit in Safi teshil at night, sources said.

At least 30 schools have been blown up in Mohmand Agency so far, depriving about 20,000 students of education. Schools and hospitals have been closed in Safi tehsil for the last two years.

Meanwhile, three persons including two government employees were kidnapped along with their vehicle by unidentified person from Dojangi area of Safi tehsil on Sunday.

The officials of Mohmand Rifles confirmed the incident and said that the two kidnapped government employees didn’t belong to political administration. They said that efforts were being made to trace the kidnapped persons.

Security forces and volunteers of Mamond Qaumi Lashkar on Sunday patrolled 10 kilometers area between Shago and Damadola and moved to other areas after gaining control of the militants’ stronghold.

Sources said that security forces set up bunkers and consolidated their positions after flushing out militants from those areas. Security forces also launched a search operation in Damadola and seized weapons, explosives and other material used in bomb making.

A number of bunkers and hideouts of militants were also destroyed by security forces and lashkar.

Weapons and explosives were also recovered from the hideouts.

Local tribesmen waving national flags welcomed security forces in Belot, Azarna and Shago areas. Sources said that security forces didn’t face any resistance during advance to other areas after taking control of Damadola.
