LADHA, March 9: Two militants were killed and six others received injuries when jetfighters pounded their hideouts in North Waziristan tribal region on Tuesday, official sources said.

The jetfighters bombarded positions of militant in Langarkhel area of Ladha tehsil and Nishba area of Sara Rogha tehsil in North Waziristan. Sources said two hideouts were destroyed in the bombing.

Official sources claimed that two militants were killed and six others wounded. However, Taliban sources neither confirmed nor denied reports about the casualties.

The jetfighters and helicopter gunships have intensified attacks on militant positions for the last three days. Sources said that surge in guerrilla attacks on security posts and military convoys for the last several days in the region might be the main reason behind the bombings.

A large number of militants, sources said, had returned to the region and started targeting security forces. Soon after the launch of military offensive in North Waziristan majority of the militants shifted to mountains along the porous Pak-Afghan border while over 0.1 million tribesmen migrated to other parts of the country.
